The Foundation for Canadian Financial Planning Research & Education was established in 2005 to support financial planning research within the academic community.
This year FPSC has renewed its efforts to advance the Foundation. Now named the FPSC Foundation, its mission is to promote research and education on financial planning for the benefit of all Canadians.
Vision
Canadians make better financial decisions.
Mission
We promote and disseminate financial planning research for the benefit of all Canadians.
Strategic Themes
The Foundation is driven by the following strategic themes and activities:
- Identifying gaps in relevant research, challenging conventional wisdom, creating opportunities for innovation.
- Facilitating new technical and behaviour research on financial planning, resulting in unbiased, independent sources of research.
- Disseminating relevant research, ensuring credible, relevant information will be accessible to the public.
- Creating a central repository to better equip financial planners.
- New trends in financial planning will be documented so that consumers can understand and appreciate how these trends may be relevant to their personal financial situation.
National Leadership in Research
The FPSC Foundation creates opportunities for Canadian universities and colleges to attract top researchers in financial planning including innovative, collaborative work that moves beyond individual research projects. In this context, financial planning encompasses the full range of academic disciplines to highlight the importance of interdisciplinary approaches.
The results of a recent financial planning literature survey, as sponsored by the FPSC Foundation and carried out by PlanPlus Inc. in 2010, indicate the great need for research in many areas. Primary areas of investigation will include but not be limited to
| Estate Distribution Analysis | Debt Management |
| Pension Alternatives | Non-Traditional Families |
| Tax Optimization | Divorce Planning |
| Succession Planning | Dependents with Special Needs |
